Premature Political Ads

Let's face it. Media is the most powerful, easiest, fastest and efficient way of spreading information. Tv and radio are the most good example of it because we may consider that the internet is not available for all the people around the world (specially to those who live in a third world country). Advertisements (or ads in short), according to some psychologists, greatly influences our "taste" of choices. That's why some companies invest a large fraction of their money to advertising and they benefit from it. Some uses celebrities and personalities to endorse their product. Some also uses all sorts of techniques (even not relevant to their products) with one goal: to increase their sales.

Here in the Philippines, it's approximately ten months to go before our national election. But even that time is far, politicians are very excited with it. Why did I say that they are very excited with it? Because of their premature political ads. In fact, some of them uses their current status in the government (whether they are elected or appointed) to "inform" us with their "good intentions and some relevant information". Well, even they say that they're not campaigning, they still advertising... and I say that it's premature.

Some uses their past projects (whether before or during the time they are government officials already) to convince us that they care for us. Some also uses their international affiliations for campaigning a specific brand of soap. He also cried when one of the members of the group was kidnapped.

Let me share you an ad that I first laugh at it but on the long run becomes too annoying with me. "Di baleng mag-dildil ng asin basta may sariling bahay." What!?! did she really mean that statement? "It's okay to eat salt [as a viand] as long as I have my own house." Ohh come on. For me, it's ok that I just rent a house as long as I eat a decent meal. Well, it's her opinion.

There was one time in history where there is a certain politician that campaigns everyday through the ads in the TV. He is always there and his ads contains not just his campaign song and propaganda but also his "achievements". He sited one of his projects: the farm-to-market roads. I have the chance to go to his province and I saw the roads. Yes, there's a road from the national road going up to the mountain sides. BUT, the construction of roads is only half. Half because sometimes it's half of the length, OR half of the width. It's funny why there is only half of the road is cemented. So, that's why people from his province says that his ads are deceitful.

Let's face it. People nowadays are not into political ads anymore. Maybe they watch the politicians political ads but I'm very sure that they will not entrust their votes solely on their promises and their "achievements".

By the way, that certain politician that that always advertises, campaigns for proper term, did not won any seat at the Senate.
