I decided to make the title short because I honestly don't know how to make a title fitting for the presidential candidate, we all know as Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte or some calls him Digong...
Remember my last post? A contributor told me Digong will surely run. Eventhough he's not right about the tandem of Duterte-Marcos, Marcos ran for VP and Duterte for President.
I was busy these days tending my own stuffs. But I really need to stop what I'm doing and I must write my opinions, so you, my dear readers might agree or disagree about it.
The ultimate reason why I posted this article is the growing concern about his reputation (good and bad) of being honest, being an iron hand and on the other hand being self confess womanizer and cursing in public.
You might ask me, did you forget about him being a "killer"? His DDS or Davao Death Squad? Well, my dear readers, in fairness to Mayor Duterte, he's right in saying that it's mere speculation. He's also right in saying that his detractors or Anti-Duterte must produce a solid evidence that there is really killings in Davao.
So, him being honest and candid is a very commendable trait that I guess he and only Senator Santiago share.
His being iron hand also contributes a lot to what Davao is actually what right now. But he also said that this is not just because og him but a shared commitment of the disciplined people in Davao.
Mayor Digong admitted also that he not just only 2 wives but also 2 girlfriends. Well, legally, it's OK. Because his new wife or second wife, came after their annulment of his first wife, the mother of Inday Sarah Duterte. And having 2 girlfriends are legally ok. Why not.
Lastly I would like to talk about is his habit in cursing in public. Well, lately, which get into the nerves of some Filipinos is his cursing of Pope Francis.
Let me share my OCO (one centavo opinion):
Even Mrs. Robredo's opinion that Naga achieved the peacefulness of Davao is somewhat right but also wrong. We must remember that violence was very rampant before Duterte's administration. So props to Duterte in making Davao a safer place to live.
On the issue of having 2 wives and 2 girlfriends?. Well, legally, it's OK. Because his new wife or second wife, came after their annulment of his first wife, the mother of Inday Sarah Duterte. And having 2 girlfriends are legally ok. Why not. But morally it's wrong in every sense.
Even if he doesn't mean to curse the pope and curse the traffic instead because of the officials, CBCP President Arcbishop Villegas criticizes Duterte for cursing Pope Francis. To quote "Adultery is corruption. It makes married love cheap and uses people for pleasure. Adultery corrupts the family; it destroys children and victimizes the weak"
Now, as of this writing, the news of a COMELEC division disqualifies Sen. Poe in running for presidency not because of her being a Filipino or not but of the residency issue. Now, if Duterte's reason for running is that he's disappointed of what SET's decision of Sen. Poe saying that "I cannot accept an American president".
My question, will he withdraw his candidacy because Sen. Poe is disqualified? Well, the camp of Sen. Poe can still appeal to the decision, but, what if it's still the final verdict? will he withdraw?
The author has also 2 issues he's afraid of. 1. How can Mayor Duterte resolve the arm conflict in Mindanao? What are the concrete steps? 2. If he wins, and he curses in live TV (one can't stop that because he's honest, and still, kudos for that) say example the president of China, will it result to a heated argument or God forbid, a war against countries?

To my understanding, Digong's solution to Mindanao's armed conflict is feudalism which is basically heavy decentralization and devolution. This would give more better/funds to the LGU who ideally should know their constituents better.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Duterte needs to understand that politics is needed in public service. It seems like he intends to legitimize his power if elected by the use of force. This may be effective in Davao where the population is less diverse. But a diverse culture like our nation's needs a leader who can articulate better so that get behind him. His profanity-laden tirades cheapen his ideas. He needs to realize that. But what do I know, right?
